King Zappow

Born Gerry Hunter in 1966 in the Pimento Walk district of Ocho Rios, St. Ann, Jamaica, King Zappow's musical journey began at an early age. Although he first started out taking piano lessons, his passion soon shifted to the guitar, and by the age of 16 he was already playing in church and developing the soulful style that would shape his career.

One of the biggest inspirations in Zappow's early life came through his connection to reggae legend Peter Tosh. While working on the grounds at Shaw Park Gardens in Ocho Rios — at a property associated with Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones — Zappow would often visit Peter Tosh, watching and listening as the icon played acoustic guitar and shared his powerful musical energy. Those experiences left a lasting impression and helped fuel his love for roots reggae, conscious music, and authentic Jamaican expression.

By the age of 19, King Zappow was performing professionally in hotels throughout Ocho Rios before expanding his career to Negril, where he became a respected figure on the live music scene. Over the years he performed with several bands including Sane Band, Roots Explosion, Indika Band, Hurricane Band, and Catalyst Band. His performances lit up legendary venues such as DeBus and Roots Bamboo in Negril, where he backed Gregory Isaacs, Sugar Minott, Alton Ellis, Yellowman, Luciano, Sizzla, and Andrew Tosh.

King Zappow also toured throughout the Caribbean — Belize, Suriname, Trinidad, and beyond — alongside Everton Blender, Richie Spice, Spanner Banner, and Sanchez. Now based in the United States, he performs as a dynamic one-man-band entertainer for high-end corporate events, private parties, and live venues.

Today, King Zappow is recording his debut album The Rebirth of King Zappow — conscious dub poetry, reggae grooves, and rock influences — while assembling a full touring band to bring his vision worldwide.
